Project 3: Arens 7.30 – 8.1
For Ms. Arens, this home is more than just a house, it's a lifetime of memories. Although she has owned the home for the past eight years, it has been in her family much longer. This is the home where she grew up, watched her parents pour their love into every improvement, and built memories she now hopes to pass on to her own family. She recalls how her mother worked tirelessly to make their house a home, adding closets, remodeling rooms one by one, and even pouring the sidewalk herself. Her father, a military veteran, worked hard to provide for his family and support those improvements. Today, with five children and nine grandchildren, Ms. Arens dreams of keeping this cherished home in the family for generations to come.
Living with a disability and relying on a limited income has made it impossible to complete the extensive repairs the home now needs. That's where our volunteers will make an incredible difference. This project will include replacing the roof, upgrading the electrical system to support a new HVAC system, installing proper ventilation, replacing nine windows, repairing and reframing the front porch, replacing flooring in several areas of the home, repairing plumbing, installing a new water heater, repairing drywall, improving insulation, replacing interior and exterior doors, repairing fascia and soffits, installing new gutters, and completing numerous safety and structural repairs throughout the home. If funding allows, we also hope to repaint portions of the home and replace the exterior siding.
Every repair completed is an investment in more than a home, it's an investment in a family's history and future. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and supporters, Ms. Arens will have the opportunity to remain in the home that holds generations of memories for years to come.
