Construction Volunteer Information
Thank you for volunteering with our home construction program! Volunteers play a vital role in helping us build homes and strengthen communities throughout Central Oklahoma.
You will work alongside a Site Supervisor and assist with various stages of home construction, which may include:
- Framing
- Truss installation
- Cornice work
- Painting
- Trim work
- Hardware installation
- Detailing
- Sod installation
- Landscaping
No construction experience is required. All necessary tools and safety equipment will be provided, and the Site Supervisor will conduct a safety orientation and explain the day's tasks before work begins.
The specific job site address will be sent approximately one week before your volunteer date. All projects are located within the Central Oklahoma area. Please GPS the address 14625 N Morgan Rd Yukon OK to get to the addition, as the exact address itself will not take you to the correct spot since the houses are not loaded into the maps yet.
Policies and Guidelines
Upon arrival, your first priority is to identify the Central Oklahoma Habitat Site Supervisor. Any questions, concerns, or issues should be directed to the Site Supervisor.
Please remember that volunteers have varying skill levels. Work within your abilities and do not perform tasks that exceed your comfort level or experience.
Because this is an active construction site, all volunteers must follow the safety guidelines below.
Before You Arrive
- Create your digital volunteer profile and complete the required waiver before arriving at the job site.
Check-In Procedures
- Upon arrival, check in digitally using the QR code displayed at the job site or by using the site kiosk.
- After checking in, you will be directed to the tool staging area where you can gather any tools needed for the day's work.
What to Wear
- Wear clothing that can get dirty.
- Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the conditions.
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. Sandals, flip-flops, and other open-toe footwear are not permitted on the construction site.
Safety Equipment and Tools
- Work gloves and safety glasses will be provided if you do not have your own.
- Volunteers are not required to bring tools.
- All tools should be returned to the designated staging area at the end of the workday.
Worksite Expectations
- The Site Supervisor will provide a safety orientation and review all volunteer assignments before work begins
- Construction work can be physically demanding. Please work at a comfortable pace and take breaks as needed.
- We recommend bringing a filled water bottle, as many job sites do not have running water available.
- Before leaving, please help clean up your work area and return all tools and equipment.
