Volunteer Opportunities From: Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity

Project 1: Murphy/Morris family 4.1 & 4.2 / Finish; Only 2-day project.

This family has lived in their home for 15 years and has reached out to us for help. We have started work at this home, but we still need volunteers to finish up their list of work.

The full list of work includes replacing ten windows, repairing subflooring in the kitchen and bathroom, and installing new vinyl flooring in those areas. We’ll also add handrails at the front and back entrances, convert a tub into a walk-in shower with grab bars, replace kitchen and bathroom faucets, update ceiling fans, make drywall repairs, and service the HVAC system, including vent repairs or replacements as needed.

We use volunteers to help with most aspects of the new home construction process.  Come out and join a site supervisor helping with our construction projects.  You will be helping with key building projects such as Framing, Trusses, Cornice, Painting, Trimming, Hardware, Detailing, Sod and Landscaping.  We will provide all the tools needed for the volunteer jobs.  No experience is necessary.  The site supervisor will give an orientation at the beginning of the work day explaining the volunteer jobs.  We will provide tools needed to volunteer for the day! This is specifically for small groups (5 or less) and individual that are wanting to help at Cornerstone Creek Housing addition. Once you are signed you will come out and help at one of the house on Bedrock Lane.  The volunteer day please call or text 405-520-3257 or 405-520-4320 for specific house number we will be working on that day.  The address listed will take you to the housing addition entrance.  We are currently working on Cornerstone Creek Drive and Foundation Way streets.

All volunteer opportunities are:

 

Customer Service – These individuals will be walking the sales floor, greeting customers and answering minor customer questions to provide a friendly, comfortable customer environment in our stores. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week who enjoy meeting and interacting with new people.

Donor Service – These individuals will be monitoring our donation drop-off, greeting donors and occasionally unloading smaller donated items to provide friendly, prompt service to our donors. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week, are comfortable working outdoors, can performing minor lifting tasks, and enjoy meeting and interacting with new people.

Merchandise Processing – We receive merchandise that has been donated by the community, and occasionally, that merchandise needs some TLC. We are looking for volunteers for two specific tasks in this area: 1) Steam cleaning and general cleaning of furniture or other items and 2) Performing minor repairs to fix damaged items. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week who are comfortable occasionally lifting or repositioning merchandise.

Project 2: Irving 4.9 – 4.11

Due to bad weather we had to delay this project several times. The Irving family takes good care of their home but has had some issues with water damage directly decaying one side of their house. Although we cannot fully take care of this issue, we agreed to do what we can by digging out an area to try to redirect the angle of the water issue.

We will also be working on replacing trim and repairing siding as needed, we will also be painting the exterior. The patio door will be replaced and inside the house we will be repairing the subfloor in several rooms. If you would like to help us with this home, we would appreciate the help.

On a fixed income, she has struggled with home maintenance and been misled by contractors. These repairs would be life-changing, especially a new roof and accessible shower.

A longtime caregiver and community helper, Mrs. Edwards fostered children for eight years and served as a church minister, reflecting her generous, caring nature. She is deeply grateful to all involved, saying it shows there are kind-hearted people in the world.

The home repairs needed include:
