Project 1: Edwards / 6.4 – 6.6 / Finish up

Mrs. Edwards has called her house home for 19 years, where she lives with her two special-needs daughters. We are excited to return to her home to complete work that was not finished during her previous project. Living on a fixed income, Mrs. Edwards has faced ongoing challenges with home maintenance, but she remains grateful for the support she has received from volunteers and community partners.

A lifelong caregiver, Mrs. Edwards fostered children for eight years and served as a church minister, dedicating much of her life to helping others. Her daughters have even volunteered their own time to help move their mother up the repair list. As we continue serving this deserving family, we are reminded of the lasting impact that volunteers can make in the lives of those who have spent years caring for others.

We use volunteers to help with most aspects of the new home construction process.  Come out and join a site supervisor helping with our construction projects.  You will be helping with key building projects such as Framing, Trusses, Cornice, Painting, Trimming, Hardware, Detailing, Sod and Landscaping.  We will provide all the tools needed for the volunteer jobs.  No experience is necessary.  The site supervisor will give an orientation at the beginning of the work day explaining the volunteer jobs.  We will provide tools needed to volunteer for the day! This is specifically for small groups (5 or less) and individual that are wanting to help at Cornerstone Creek Housing addition. Once you are signed you will come out and help at one of the house on Bedrock Lane.  The volunteer day please call or text Joely Dixson at 405-501-9394 or Bruce Kennedy at 405-520-4320 for specific house number we will be working on that day.  The address listed will take you to the housing addition entrance.  We are currently working on Cornerstone Creek Drive and Foundation Way streets.

We are looking for volunteers for two specific tasks in this area: 1) Steam cleaning and general cleaning of furniture or other items and 2) Performing minor repairs to fix damaged items. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week who are comfortable occasionally lifting or repositioning merchandise.

Project 2: Jordan / 6.11 – 6.13

Ms. Jordan lives in her childhood home with her granddaughter and learned about the Critical Home Repair program through her mother. Living on a fixed income while raising her granddaughter on her own has made home repairs difficult, so she is incredibly thankful for the support. She shared that these updates will make their home safer, more comfortable, and more energy efficient while helping lower utility costs.

Repairs planned for the home include replacing 12 windows, repairing siding, soffit, and fascia as needed, repainting the exterior, repairing a leak near the garage door that has damaged her art room, replacing flooring in her granddaughter’s bedroom, and replacing the garage side door and exterior water spigot.

Ms. Jordan enjoys arts and crafts, gardening, fishing, and spending time with family. She has served in law enforcement for 22 years and currently works as a reserve police officer, continuing her passion for serving others and her community. She would like to sincerely thank the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, sharing that these repairs will mean so much to both her and her granddaughter.

Project 3: Russell / 6.18 – 6.20

Ms. Russell has proudly called her house home for the past 14 years and is grateful for the support she is receiving through the Critical Home Repair program. She shared that these repairs will greatly improve her daily life by helping protect the integrity of her home while creating a safer and more accessible bathroom environment. Planned repairs for her home include exterior improvements such as soffit, fascia, and gable repairs, replacing windows, updating exterior water spigots, repairing fencing, and addressing minor electrical and drywall concerns. Bathroom updates and accessibility improvements will also help make her home safer and more comfortable for years to come.

A lifelong lover of music, Ms. Russell is especially close with her siblings and has spent many years serving her church community. She holds two college degrees, has taught at her church, and faithfully sang in the choir until her retirement. Project 4: Peterson / 6.25 – 6.27 

The Peterson family has been in their home for two years and is working hard to build a strong future together. With a young daughter at home, Mr. Peterson has balanced the demands of family life while completing his master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling. As he prepares to begin helping others through his profession, he remains hopeful and optimistic about what lies ahead for his own family as well.

Like many first-time homeowners, the Petersons have faced challenges keeping up with needed home repairs. Through this project, volunteers will help repair siding and trim, complete minor exterior painting, replace three interior doors, service or possibly replace the furnace, and repair plumbing under the kitchen sink. These improvements will make their home safer and more comfortable, allowing the family to spend less time worrying about repairs and more time enjoying life together.
