Volunteer Opportunities From: Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity

Project 4: Edwards 4.23 – 4. 25 & 4.30 – 4.25; 2-week Grant house

Mrs. Edwards has lived in her home for 19 years with her two special-needs daughters, who have volunteered to help get their mom on the fast repair list. On a fixed income, she has struggled with home maintenance and been misled by contractors. These repairs would be life-changing, especially a new roof and accessible shower.

A longtime caregiver and community helper, Mrs. Edwards fostered children for eight years and served as a church minister, reflecting her generous, caring nature. She is deeply grateful to all involved, saying it shows there are kind-hearted people in the world.

The home repairs needed include:

Replacing the roof and HVAC system Replacing the front and rear doors, and the rear landing if needed Replacing 12 windows, exterior trim, and fascia as required Installing an aluminum door transition and a front porch ramp Converting the master bathroom tub into a walk-in shower with grab bars and an ADA toilet, and adding a shower chair if space allows Repairing leaks, inspecting the water heater, and replacing them if needed Repairing damaged drywall Repairing or replacing exterior siding, caulking, and other exterior repairs Replacing light switches, outlets, and ceiling fans as needed Installing vinyl plank flooring Painting the exterior as needed

 

These repairs will make her home safer, more accessible, and better maintained for her and her daughters.

We use volunteers to help with most aspects of the new home construction process.  Come out and join a site supervisor helping with our construction projects.  You will be helping with key building projects such as Framing, Trusses, Cornice, Painting, Trimming, Hardware, Detailing, Sod and Landscaping.  We will provide all the tools needed for the volunteer jobs.  No experience is necessary.  The site supervisor will give an orientation at the beginning of the work day explaining the volunteer jobs.  We will provide tools needed to volunteer for the day! Once you are signed I will follow up with the job address where you will volunteer. Volunteer Guidelines for Construction Sites

When you arrive to the job site, please digitally check in on your personal phone with QR code that is displayed at the job site or check in at the site kiosk.  

All volunteers must complete a waiver prior to working.  I have sent a copy that can be reviewed and filled out prior to the volunteer day or it can be obtained from the site superintendent on the day you work.

Wear clothing you won’t mind getting dirty. Check the weather and dress appropriately.

Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required for your safety. You will not be allowed to work on site in sandals or flip flops.

Work gloves and safety glasses will be provided if you don’t have your own.

You do not need your own tools.  After volunteers check-in they will be directed to the staged area where they can equip themselves with the necessary tools they will need to volunteer for that day.  At the end of the day the tools will be returned to the staged area.

Prior to starting the volunteer jobs the site supervisor will give an orientation about the work the volunteers will be doing throughout the day.

Work of this type can be strenuous, especially if you are unaccustomed to physical labor. Please be sure to pace yourself and take breaks when necessary. We recommend that you bring your own filled water bottle, as many of the job sites do not have running water. Please clean up before leaving the construction site.

We use volunteers to help with most aspects of the new home construction process.  Come out and join a site supervisor helping with our construction projects.  You will be helping with key building projects such as Framing, Trusses, Cornice, Painting, Trimming, Hardware, Detailing, Sod and Landscaping.  We will provide all the tools needed for the volunteer jobs.  No experience is necessary.  The site supervisor will give an orientation at the beginning of the work day explaining the volunteer jobs.  We will provide tools needed to volunteer for the day! Once you are signed I will follow up with the job address where you will volunteer. The specific job address will be sent out about a week out from the volunteer day!  The job will be in the Central Oklahoma Area!

Your first job when arriving at the work site is to identify the Central Oklahoma Habitat site supervisor.   Any questions or problems that arise should be directed to the site supervisor.
