Volunteer Opportunities From: Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Habitat Restore Downtown! If you need to complete court-ordered community service, we will be happy to assist you. Volunteers will help with sorting the warehouse and putting items on the floor.  Volunteers will also help loading items for customers.  Volunteers will also help unload donated items.

*Please note that we do require a background check for all volunteers that are working at the Restore!*

All volunteer opportunities are:

 

Customer Service – These individuals will be walking the sales floor, greeting customers and answering minor customer questions to provide a friendly, comfortable customer environment in our stores. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week who enjoy meeting and interacting with new people.

Donor Service – These individuals will be monitoring our donation drop-off, greeting donors and occasionally unloading smaller donated items to provide friendly, prompt service to our donors. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week, are comfortable working outdoors, can performing minor lifting tasks, and enjoy meeting and interacting with new people.

Merchandise Processing – We receive merchandise that has been donated by the community, and occasionally, that merchandise needs some TLC. We are looking for volunteers for two specific tasks in this area: 1) Steam cleaning and general cleaning of furniture or other items and 2) Performing minor repairs to fix damaged items. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 6 hours per week who are comfortable occasionally lifting or repositioning merchandise.

Project 3: Hooser / 8.20 – 8.22

Mr. Hooser lives with his dog and needs help making repairs to his aging home. He is grateful to have been accepted into our program and truly appreciates any assistance our team and volunteers can provide.

We will be sending a roofer to replace his roof and install an HVAC unit. They will also replace the water heater while bringing the venting up to code. Volunteers will help remodel the bathroom with a new shower, toilet, vanity, light fixture, and ventilation, while also replacing five windows, two entry doors, the kitchen countertop, and flooring throughout the home. We will also install attic insulation, complete any needed fascia repairs for new gutters, and, if time allows paint both the interior and exterior.

Project 4: Mr. & Mrs. Fukui / 7.27 - 7.29

Mr. and Mrs. Fukui have called their house home for more than a decade. They are seeking assistance with accessibility improvements that will help them maintain their independence and continue living safely and comfortably in the home they love.

We will be sending a roofer to install a new roof. This month, we'll update some essential bathroom features with an ADA-compliant toilet, new flooring, improved ventilation, and a wider doorway for easier access. We'll also replace several doors and eight windows, update the kitchen countertop and flooring, install handrails, and complete other needed repairs throughout the home. Every improvement will help make their home safer and more accessible for years to come.

Volunteer Guidelines for Construction Sites

When you arrive to the job site, please digitally check in on your personal phone with QR code that is displayed at the job site or check in at the site kiosk.  

All volunteers must complete a waiver prior to working.  I have sent a copy that can be reviewed and filled out prior to the volunteer day or it can be obtained from the site superintendent on the day you work.

Wear clothing you won’t mind getting dirty. Check the weather and dress appropriately.

Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required for your safety. You will not be allowed to work on site in sandals or flip flops.

Work gloves and safety glasses will be provided if you don’t have your own.

You do not need your own tools.  After volunteers check-in they will be directed to the staged area where they can equip themselves with the necessary tools they will need to volunteer for that day.  At the end of the day the tools will be returned to the staged area.

Prior to starting the volunteer jobs the site supervisor will give an orientation about the work the volunteers will be doing throughout the day.

Work of this type can be strenuous, especially if you are unaccustomed to physical labor. Please be sure to pace yourself and take breaks when necessary. We recommend that you bring your own filled water bottle, as many of the job sites do not have running water. Please clean up before leaving the construction site.

We use volunteers to help with most aspects of the new home construction process.  Come out and join a site supervisor helping with our construction projects.  You will be helping with key building projects such as Framing, Trusses, Cornice, Painting, Trimming, Hardware, Detailing, Sod and Landscaping.  We will provide all the tools needed for the volunteer jobs.  No experience is necessary.  The site supervisor will give an orientation at the beginning of the work day explaining the volunteer jobs.  We will provide tools needed to volunteer for the day! Once you are signed I will follow up with the job address where you will volunteer. The specific job address will be sent out about a week out from the volunteer day!  The job will be in the Central Oklahoma Area!
